The Nassau County Board of County Commissioners is advancing a tentative budget for fiscal year 2026-2027. It includes the sixth consecutive year of millage rate reductions and the second consecutive year of a total budget reduction, according to a recent release. It also includes the largest millage rate reduction in six years, the release said.
The board held a budget workshop July 27. Commissioners reviewed the tentative budget and set the maximum proposed millage rates.
The tentative budget keeps funding the Capital Improvement Plan, Pavement Management Plan and Chip Seal Program. It also supports public safety investments in the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office and Nassau County Fire Rescue, said the release.
The budget focuses on quality of life. It also works within the county’s restricted and limited revenues, according to the release. Officials say it balances the needs of today’s residents against future economic pressures.
Nassau County is one of the fastest-growing counties in Florida and the nation, the release said. That growth has increased demand for public services. Residents want improvements to roads, parks, drainage infrastructure and public safety.
The tentative budget addresses those needs. It supports the Sheriff’s Office, Fire Rescue and Emergency Operations. It funds roads through the Pavement Management Program, Chip Seal Program and Drainage Ditch Maintenance Program. It also funds the development and enhancement of parks and athletic facilities, according to a recent release.
The board’s ongoing involvement in the budget process guides its financial planning, the release said. That includes annual Winter Strategic Planning Sessions and regular review of county policies. Those efforts support a transparent, results-driven budgeting process. The process prioritizes fiscal responsibility, reduced millage rates and improved services for residents, according to the release.
