Welcome to this edition of our weekly community update, designed to keep you informed about ongoing developments and initiatives throughout our city. This week’s report features highlights of recent progress, updates on municipal projects, and key announcements impacting our community. Providing transparency and engagement is both a privilege and a responsibility we take seriously. Projects/Operations
- The Florida National Register Review Board voted this week to forward the nomination of Bosque Bello Cemetery to the National Park Service for consideration of inclusion on the National Register of Historic Places. Inclusion on the National Register is one of the highest recognitions of historic places in the country and comes with more opportunities for funding and greater protections.
- The street resurfacing project has been delayed due to weather conditions. The project involves repaving 1.3 miles of streets throughout the city, with mid-September now the estimated start time. The list of roads scheduled for resurfacing is available at fbfl.us/projects.
- Contractors will be mobilizing next week to replace windows and doors at the Atlantic Recreation Center complex and the Martin Luther King Jr. complex. Residents should expect some disruptions as the building improvements get underway.
- The city is about halfway through its nine-session Citizens’ Academy. This week, the group heard from the Community Development Department.
- The City Commission recently approved updated Historic Downtown Design Guidelines, marking the first comprehensive update since 2013.
- The city’s website, fbfl.us, is getting updated with a redesign for a more user-friendly experience on both desktop and mobile devices. The go-live date is Aug. 19.
- As the city gears up for the Fernandina Harbor Marina redevelopment, the Pirate Voyages and Amelia River ticket kiosks have moved to Parking Lot B, further south.

- The City of Fernandina Beach, Flowers of Colombia and That Flower Feeling are giving away 200 bud flower vases. Stop by the Martin Luther King Jr. Recreation Center auditorium on Friday, Aug. 21, between 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. to get a bud vase and extras to share with friends. It’s first come, first served.
