Welcome to this edition of our weekly community update, designed to keep you informed about ongoing developments and initiatives throughout our city. This week’s report features highlights of recent progress, updates on municipal projects, and key announcements impacting our community. Providing transparency and engagement is both a privilege and a responsibility we take seriously. Your input and involvement continue to play a vital role in shaping our collective decisions and establishing priorities as we work together toward our shared goals.

Projects/Operations

  • The city budget process is in full swing. The proposed budget will be reviewed at the Aug. 4 commission workshop. Subsequent meetings are scheduled for Aug. 5 and Aug. 6 if required by the Commission. Check the meeting calendar at fbfl.us for more details.
  • The Ash Street drainage project had some permitting delays related to the boring under the railroad. The under rail work will be completed the first week of August and then the project will quickly move towards completion. Paving will occur towards the end of the month.
  • Street resurfacing will begin mid-August. This is the third phase of paving for this fiscal year. This project involves the repaving of 1.3 miles of streets throughout the city. The list of roads scheduled for resurfacing are provided at fbfl.us/projects.

News/Promotions

  • Bosque Bello Cemetery has been nominated to the National Register of Historic Places. A hearing will be held on Aug. 12 in Tallahassee.
  • The Army Corps of Engineers removed escarpment lines along city beaches. Permit requires removal of lines greater than 18 inches during sea turtle nesting season.
  • An informational meeting on the redevelopment of the Fernandina Harbor Marina was held. Updates are frequently being added to the city’s website: fbfl.us/projects.
  • Our second Sunset Concert was another success. Join us on Sunday, Aug. 23, at 7 p.m. for the next one featuring Your Mom’s Favorite Band.
  • The City of Fernandina Beach Parks and Recreation Department offers a memorial picnic table and/or bench adoption program. Adopting a table or bench provides a way for families and friends to recognize and remember a loved one, a civic group or a business.
