I’m Lissa Braddock, seeking re-election to the Nassau County School Board, bringing a lifetime of dedication to education, family and community.
Born and raised on Long Island, (Nassau County, ironically) New York, alongside two brothers and a younger sister, I grew up in a household that valued hard work and service. My father, a NYC attorney and my mother, Long Beach’s recreational supervisor, instilled discipline and teamwork by coaching all four of us children in competitive swimming, including water ballet and synchronized swimming, which my mother taught my sister and me. (As a teenager, I performed routines at beach clubs and aquatic events across Long Island and also in college.) Additionally, we all worked as lifeguards during the summer months. That foundation carried forward as my family excelled in athletics. My brothers, Lloyd and Lance Keigwin, swam at Brown University while my sister, Janet, and I competed in Arkansas. There, I was a state record holder and later entered into my University’s Athletic Hall of Honor.
I met my husband, Ronnie, in college where he attended on a football scholarship alongside his twin brother, Donnie. We married four years later and made our home in Callahan, Florida, where Ronnie was raised. Together we began careers in education, teaching in Hilliard before Ronnie was called to serve as a lieutenant at Fort Benning. During that time, I taught at Spencer High School in Columbus, Georgia. Following his military service, we returned to Nassau County to build our lives and raise our family. Ronnie went on to serve as an assistant principal in Fernandina while I taught private swimming lessons and coached the Fernandina Beach Swim Club. I taught eighth-grade language arts (34 years) at Yulee and Callahan Middle Schools in addition to the two I taught in Georgia. Proudly, I was named Teacher of the Year three times.
Ronnie and I raised and educated our four children, Ronnie Jr., Erin Braddock Gray, Lauren Braddock Fellows and Natalie Braddock Armstrong in Nassau County. Our three daughters became educators and coaches, and eight of our 11 grandchildren attend school here in Nassau County, deeply investing in the same school system we served. After the passing of my husband of 45 years, I was asked to finish his 17th year of service as a commissioner on the Nassau County Port Authority. That experience led me to continue our shared commitment to education and community by running for the Nassau County School Board, and winning.
Today, I am proud to serve and am running for re-election to continue supporting the No. 1 top-ranked school system in Florida. With decades of classroom experience and a deep personal connection to the community, I remain committed to ensuring every student has the opportunity to succeed.
